Jim Townsend Appointed Chairman of NORA
On July 1, 2006, Jim Townsend, President of Townsend Oil & Propane assumed the title of Chairman of the National Oilheat Research Foundation (NORA).
Established in 2001, NORA is a dynamic, forward-thinking organization, which is industry-funded by a small contribution for every gallon of Oilheat that is destined for consumer use in over 20 states. If you are an Oilheat customer, NORA is working directly for you in many ways - for example, when you hear an Oilheat ad on the radio ... invite a certified Oilheat technician into your home ... or read about new advances in heating oil technology.
NORA's three major initiatives are Oilheat education and training, research and consumer information. In the Oilheat education and training area, NORA has developed an outstanding Oilheat Certification Program - a specialized curriculum for technicians, drivers, customer service personnel and management, to establish educational excellence in the Oilheat industry. Through research, NORA has launched an ambitious program to improve the efficiency of Oilheat equipment and is making great strides in researching alternative heating sources such as biofuels and lower-sulfur heating oil, in order to increase energy conservation. Finally, NORA's consumer information initiatives include programs for real estate professionals, consumer publications, and a comprehensive consumer website at

Previously, Mr. Townsend held leadership positions at the New England Fuel Institute and Massachusetts Oilheat Council.
