Outgoing NEFI President Will Remain a Voice for Oilheat's Future
From "Oil & Energy" Magazine - March 2006
Jim Townsend fell in love with the Oilheat industry as a youngster, when he would ride around in a delivery truck with his late father, Warren.
"It was fun delivering something people needed and having them appreciate the service," said Townsend, who now serves as CEO of the family business, Townsend Oil. The company has three offices in Massachusetts and one in New Hampshire and supplies heating oil and propane to about 14,000 accounts.
Townsend Oil has long been a member of industry organizations such as the Massachusetts Oilheat Council (MOC) and the New England Fuel Institute (NEFI). Townsend's personal affection for the industry led him to get involved in those associations once he entered the business full-time in the late 1970s, and for the past two years he has served as the President of NEFI.
He will be stepping down from that position next month, as Sean Cota comes in to begin his term as President. But Townsend will also be moving into the Chairman's position at the National Oilheat Research Alliance (NORA) this summer, so he will continue to play a significant role in the future of Oilheat.
Oil & Energy spoke with Townsend to get his thoughts on the state of the industry, the important roles organizations like NEFI and NORA have to play in it, and where it's headed in the future.
