Conservation Tune-Ups

A Townsend Conservation Tune-Up prepares your heating or cooling equipment for a full season of reliable, efficient operation. Our Conservation Specialists™ restore your system to peak operating condition with a thorough inspection and tuning that typically raises efficiency by 5 percent.

Here are the principal benefits of a Townsend Conservation Tune-Up:

  • A comfort system that operates efficiently. A Conservation Tune-up ensures that your heating or cooling system is working efficiently and providing maximum heating or cooling while using less energy. A properly tuned system is also friendlier to the environment.
  • Saving money on energy bills. By reducing the amount of energy your heating or cooling system requires, you save money! A tune-up typically reduces energy usage by 5 percent.
  • Preventive maintenance. When one of our skilled professionals performs a Conservation Tune-up, they might detect and repair a small problem before it becomes serious. You could prevent an untimely breakdown and an expensive repair.

A Townsend Conservation Tune-Up for an Oilheat system consists of the following steps:

  1. Vacuuming and cleaning all heating surfaces within the furnace or boiler.
  2. Examining the smoke pipe for rigidity, air-tightness and signs of deterioration. If the pipe is worn out, we replace it. If it is partially plugged, we clear it using a vacuum cleaner and make certain that the stack control is rigidly mounted.
  3. Examining the chimney for plugging. If the chimney needs cleaning, we bring this to your attention.
  4. Installing a new fuel oil filter and gasket.
  5. Installing a new fuel oil pump strainer and gasket.
  6. Inspecting the entire heating system and sealing any leaks found.
  7. Removing the drawer of the gun-tube assembly from the oil burner and wiping it clean. At the same time, we clean the burner's blower wheel and air inlet ports.
  8. Replacing the burner's atomizing nozzle.

  1. Adjusting unit for maximum combustion efficiency and safe operation
  2. Visual inspection of heating surfaces and vent system
  3. Checking that the system is drafting properly
  4. Cleaning pilots, burners and flame sensors, if needed
  5. Lubricating motors, if needed
  6. Checking and replacing furnace air filters
  7. Replacing furnace blower belts, if needed
  8. Checking boiler system pressure
